The best time to travel to Thailand
Thailand is a popular travel destination all year round. However, there are certain times of the year that are considered the best time to visit. The dry season in Thailand begins in November and lasts until February.
The months of March to May are among the hottest months in Thailand, with temperatures often rising above 35 degrees Celsius. The rainy season begins in June and lasts until October, with most of the rain falling in September and October.
If you want to avoid the crowds and take advantage of cheaper prices, you can also consider the low season. There are often sunny days even during the rainy season and the landscape is green and lush.
Our personal expirience
We experienced both “seasons” and we are very happy that we were able to change our itinerary so flexibly on our last trip to Thailand. As with everything, you can be lucky or unlucky with the weather. On our last trip to Thailand in September/October, we wanted to explore Phuket, Krabi and the surrounding islands. Unfortunately, we completely threw our route overboard in Krabi and then headed to the east coast of the country towards Koh Phangan. Personally, we didn't mind as we love the east coast, especially Koh Phangan. It rained much less on the east coast. We weren't completely spared, but it only rained for a few hours at a time. Every now and then it was cloudy and then the sun came out.
Why we completely changed our itinerary
When we visited the AO Nang Elephant Sanctuary, we had a little chat with the staff. They told us that a huge rain front was coming to the region. It started the next day ... and to be honest it was far from “just a few hours”. So we cut short our stay there early and drove to the east coast. At the end of this Thailand trip, it turned out to be the best decision, as it rained all the time in the region. At the end of our trip to Thailand, we had to go back to Phuket because we flew from Phuket to Germany.
Guys! We were so lucky! If we had flown a day earlier, we wouldn't have been able to fly. We wouldn't have been able to get to the airport because the roads were completely flooded.
Conclusion on the best time to travel to Thailand
During the rainy season in Thailand, the country really blossoms. The waterfalls are full to bursting, the landscape is green and the temperatures are pleasant. During the dry season it is hot, still green, but the waterfalls we visited are partly empty. Personally, we wouldn't fly to Thailand in the rainy season as we are absolute beach people and it was just too much rain for us.
Entry requirements for Thailand
To enter Thailand, you will need a passport, temporary passport or a child's passport. The documents must be valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry. If your stay is no longer than 30 days, you can enter the country without a visa. However, if you are planning a longer stay, you must apply for a visa at the Thai embassy.
The entry requirements can change at any time, so we recommend that you check the website of the Federal Foreign Office in advance to find out about the current entry requirements.
When travelling with children, please ensure that the children are still recognizable. Since this year, the children's passport no longer exists. This means that you MUST apply for a proper passport, even for a baby. However, the baby will definitely no longer be recognized at the age of 3. You have to be really careful, as the customs officer can object to such a situation and you will not be allowed into the country.
